2010 was a long year, 365 days to be exact! Although it seemed much, much longer to me. The beginning of the year, I did some planning, and made a lot of decisions.
In March of this year, I took on a second job. This allowed me to earn the needed cash to purchase fence posts, fencing, and a lot of other supplies.
I completed several projects this year, the construction of a screened in front porch, a chicken coop and chicken pen, posts set for a welcome sign at the end of my driveway, a wood box next to the porch,and a grape arbor.
I had twenty ton of rock hauled in on my driveway, got a ton of pea gravel to go around my blueberries and add to the the big flower bed at the end of the driveway.
I added more day lillies around the front of the house, as well as some ornamental grass, out towards the highway.
Two persimmon trees were planted in the front, and blackberries and strawberries out back of the house.
Financially, I have paid off one loan, caught up a few other bills, and have been able to buy a few things for the inside of the house too.
God has taught me a lot of patience this year as well, even though I accomplished so much, I did not get all the projects completed that I had wanted to. But as I look back, I see God’s hand on, and in everything in my life this past year.
I am now in the planning stages for 2011, and am excited to make my lists of projects I want to complete, and the plants I want to plant this summer. I am also going to add goats to my livestock, as well as a few ducks.
Some of the 2011 gardening trends for next year are urban farming, growing plants vertically, indoor gardening, succulents, sustainable containers, edible ornamentals and eco-scaping, and several of those are of interest to me as well.
I’m thankful for such a productive year, and am looking forward to a very interesting and exciting upcoming next year. I hope all of you will reap what you sew!
